Our storyboard

Representation

Representation is how a certain gender or group is presented in a a tv programme or music video etc. The idea behind our video is the representation of how the male is treating the female, the idea is to present the man as the domnant evil figure and the woman as the victim. All different videos would take different approaches to representing gender. Other representations or how people could be presented are as follows: Gender, Age, Class, etc. On the whole representation is shown more through tv programmes and movies. However it is easy to show representation in a powerpop video because most powerpop songs are based on love. Therefore it is easy to try and make the male or female take a certain role through the video, an example of this is: In the video Bleeding love by 'Leona Lewis' both the male and female cheat on one another and therefore they are presented as being as bad as eachother, whereas if it had been that it had been the female who was the cheat then she would be presented as the villain.

Powepop Audience

Powerpop is usually more aimed at the female market rather than male. although some men do still listen to Powerpop music. Their isn't really a specific age range for the Powerpop genre, the age group tends to go straight through from early teens right the way to older people. Powepop music appeals too quite a large audience, probably more than a genre like 'Rock' or 'Chav' music, as these two are quite specific to their genre, whereas Powerpop is quite free within its genre. Some typical Powerpop artists are as follows: 'Leona Lewis', 'Mariah Carey' and 'Alesha Dixon'. On the whole Powerpop artists tend to be solo acts rather than groups, and the artists themselves tend to be female rather than male. Powerpop is not very well known as a genre, however it is on the increase.

Magazine advert examples

All of these are examples of powerpop Magazine ad's. All three are all very similar in the sense that there is an enticing photo of the artist and then the title of the song and artist. On the whole magazine ad's are pretty straight and too the point, this usually applies with a variety of genre's of music.

Ideoligy

Performers often transfer their beliefs and values into their music videos or other promotional activities. They do this so that there fans can get a sense of what they really are and relate to them. Not all music genres allow artists to have values. Power pop fortunately is a genre which allows the artist to truly express themselves. They can express their feelings and emotions through their voice and their videos. Power pop videos are usually dramatic and the majority of the time the videos always have a meaning which links in to the song. Power pop stars are very different to other genres, because others may represent something else, e.g. punk usually represents rebellion and care free attitude and rave artists are only represent dancing and having fun. Power pop stars instead talk about specific issues, e.g. love, loss, war. This means that these stars have an opportunity to express of their beliefs and values.

Basic summary of Our idea

The basic idea we are trying to portray in our video is the seriousness of domestic violence, our idea is too show a girl who is being abused by her husband, break free from him and his domestic violence. For the first part of the song we see numerous shots showing his abuse, then we see the girl talking to a counsellor who tells her she has to leave him, we then see her pack her bags and as she is about to leave. She is confronted by her husband who is very angry, we finally see her run away with her suitcase, this is supposed to show that she is no longer in an abusive relationship and she is now free.

The Shooting Day- 9th December

We started shooting the counselllor parts first, we used a meeting room at school, it looked realistic, like a proper counsellors office. After this we went to my house to film some of the abuse scenes and the leaving scene, also I had the makeup at mine to make amie's bruises. It took about half hour after we got to mine to get all everything prepared Ie: numerous costume changes, making of the bruises and setting up certain props, but after this our filming at mine went quite swiftly. After we finished the filming at mine we moved to Greg's to do a few final shots and the performance. We filmed the performance through a few times from different angles and using different shots, and then when we were happy with what we had we finally filmed the 'happier times' shots. Overall our filming didn't take as long as we'd inticipated, however we were only to find a few weeks later that the reason for this is that we didn't have enough variation in shots.

Editing

Tara edited the day after filming, however because I was on holiday I wasn't able to help. When I got back from holiday after the christmas holidays Tara and I looked at the media together and decided that although many parts were good, there needed to be some alterations. We decided to re-shoot the performace element of our music vid and get a wider range of shots in order to make the music video better. We also decided that many of our shots were too lengthy and in places too shakey. We did our second day of filming on the 15th of January and then started editing on monday, we did some editing on monday tuesday and wednesday in order to make our video as good as possible. As far as our original idea goes. we decided that we needed to do some altering to make it look more proffesional and realistic. We used a variety of shots varying from long distance shots to close up's, we also had an equal balance of Performance and narrative, this is the style of the majority of Powepop music video's and we thought we should aim to do this also. All in all I think that our filming and editing was successful.
